American Women in Radio and Television National Capital Area Chapter Kicks Off
A New Speakers Series: Women, Media & Washington
(First Up: An Evening with Alison Starling)

Washington, DC - Politics is the new pop culture and Washington DC has quickly become one of the most popular cities to call home. What is it like to work in one of the fastest growing cities and top news markets in the country? AWRT National Capital Area Chapter presents Women, Media & Washington, a speaker series that features women broadcasters who are making waves in the nation’s capital.

The first speaker spotlight will feature ABC7/WJLA-TV Anchor Alison Starling. Starling has been co-anchor of Good Morning Washington and ABC7 News at Noon since January, 2004. She is no stranger to the nation’s capital having spent part of her childhood in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area while her father worked for the office of the U.S. Trade Representative. Later, Starling spent time in DC as a Congressional summer intern. In 2005 Washingtonian Magazine named Starling one of the “rising stars” in local television news and in 2008 readers of Washingtonian voted her one of the top three news anchors in Washington DC.

“We are committed to highlighting local leaders in the DC Metro area, stated AWRT-NCAC President Jonelle Henry. Alison has an exciting personal story and her rise to success in television will inspire women in the industry.”

“An Evening with Alison Starling” is set to take place on Thursday, October 22nd at The National Association of Broadcasters building, 1771 N Street, NW in Washington DC. Due to limited seating the public is strongly urged to RSVP for the event by sending an email to AWRT-NCAC VP of Programs Fran Murphy – programs@awrt-ncac.org. AWRT Members are free, Non-members pay $10. Nearest Metro - Dupont Circle (Red Line).
